Hello all, newbie here looking for some thoughts. I am a Product Engineer for a medical ultrasound transducer OEM. Currently I am working on the development and release of a fetal monitor (transducer only, customer is integrating on their system) and am having issues with regards to marking and labeling. The issue is that the product is pretty small and there isn't much room for labeling on the unit. Our customer is telling us that the following MUST be on the unit as a min as specified by the listed standards:
Product name or number to include REF symbol. 2mm min height. - shouldn't be an issue
Exclamation triangle for manual reference per 60878-0434. 5mm min height. - also not a big issue
CE mark with notified body number. 5mm min height. 2mm min text height. - also not an issue
MFG symbol per EN-980 with year-month 2005-06. 5mm min height symbol. 2mm min height text. - here is where we start having problems. Due to space constraints I can't fit the month. Is it really required? We use this symbol on labels for other customers and it only has the year but no month. Our Serial number system tells you the mfg year and week so the month is contained there. Does that meet the requirement?
Unique Serial Number with letters "SN" followed by number. SN FW123456 is recommended scheme. 2 mm min height. - our serial number system is an eight digit system with the first number being the year of mfg and the next 2 digits being the week of mfg. Customer says as long as we put SN in front of our system it meets their needs.
Corporate logo is reqd by marketing. - not an issue
So really the mfg symbol is the issue. I have attached a mock up of the transducer with a rough label. Obviously in production everything will be spaced evenly and lined up properly. Mock up is on plain paper while the actual label will meet UL standards for marking and labeling. The logos shown are all at the min size as outlined by the customer. Customer logo as not shown and will be cliche printed on another area of the transducer. The serial number is going to be printed on a shrink tube and put on the cable which is also not shown. The key question here is the mfg symbol because as you can see there is no room for the month to be added to the year.
Thoughts?
Thanks
