ISOADMINHBH - I appreciate opinions may vary on this (to a degree) but follow Jane's advice from 2 posts up. I was going to reply in a very similar vein though Jane's is just about the best advice you're going to get at this stage. If your boss is a little defensive or reluctant, ask him if you can conduct just one MR in this manner. If he agrees, once it's taken place, ask him to compare it against previous MRs. I'd be very surprised if he wouldn't favour the new approach.

Me too. Good advice, Migre, and thanks for the kind words.

I've not uncommonly run across such stupid, low-value, boring-as-all-hell types of so-called 'management reviews' in companies who'd been (wrongly) misinformed that this what they were 'supposed' to do 'according to ISO 9001'.

And when changed around along the lines suggested and also integrated into their existing structure for management planning and review, they may begin by worrying slightly (is it OK to do it this new way? are you really sure we don't have to do it that cr**ppy old way that we all hated?) but then very, very quickly realise that doing it in a way that makes sense in their organisation works for them. And that it's a valuable activity. Which is what it's supposed to be.

I've been in that very situation Jane. The first few management reviews I held (some 15 years or so ago now) were exactly like that, simply because I'd been led to believe that it had to be that way. When I realised that wasn't the case, things became so much easier and, most importantly, worthwhile.

Our MMR meetings, while not the most anticipated event of the year, is no longer dreaded. Instead of MR presenting a big long report about what every one else is doing, the managers present their areas of responsiblity themselves.

So as MR, I do the QMS side of things, but they present their own areas. We present it as a showcase. Your time to shine. We do discuss trends, issues, needs, however nothing in an MMR should be a shock or surprise IMHO. We have a friendly competition between a few of us for most outstanding powerpoint presentation (some are full of animation and music!)

For the rest, I feed them. There is always a free lunch involved. If nothing else, they leave happy cuz they are full. :lmao:

1st...There is no reason or requirement to have any kind of meeting, all that is required is that Top Management perform a review of the inputs(5.6.1) and provide outputs (5.6.2)...How, when and where the review is conducted is up to you..

For the most part what I see happen at MR meetings generally is no better than some kind of semi-formal Dog-and-Pony-Show with neither the dog or pony really wanting to be involved
