Hi everyone,

Im looking for recommendations for ISO 9001:2015 certification courses. The company I work at wants to become ISO9001 certified, they are starting the process. I have some experience working at ISO9001 certified companies and was an internal auditor for one of the companies.
Where should I start? - I feel like I'm climbing Mount Kilimanjaro

Thanks
Monica

As someone who has taught a couple hundred of the things from here to Dubai and back, so here's what I'll tell you .........Save your money, come visit here, download all the free stuff you want, ask some questions from folks that really know and aren't guessing, and do it yourself.

Right now, without even seeing what you have or where you're at or what you do, I'd guess you've already got and have knowledge of 50%-75% of what's needed, you just don't realize it.

Look at your local trade association or community college and see if they have anything to get you started. Depending on the size of your company, if you can find a program which puts a cohort of companies together to work thru implementing a system that can be very helpful. You're basically sharing a consultant and bouncing ideas off each other. Good luck.

Sometimes trade associations or local colleges will put together a group of companies and along with an ISO consultant work thru each section of the standard to help develop a QMS. It's likely to last several months. You're basically splitting the cost of the consultant over several companies as well as having the ability to bounce different ideas off of each other.

Monica,

Before embarking on your climb up and up Kilimanjaro you may benefit from your study of this thread:

Study and may be surprised by the extent to which your organization already works as a system in conformity with the standard.

Best wishes,

John

Keep in mind the QMS serves the company. The tail doesn’t wag the dog. With a risk based argument a lot of your choices can be defended.

Just make sure that someone has actual, real world, hands on experience and not some jackleg that read some material and took a shake & bake, whiz-bang course immediately claiming to be an all-knowing expert!

One option to check is for QMS consulting companies. The company I work at is quite small. When they were asked by a customer to get certified, they had 10 people, and no one experienced to ask internally. They found a local consulting group that had a basic minimum QMS with blank headers. They came in, adjusted things to match the company, and handed us a manual. They do our internal audits and we have them on call when we have issues or trouble with the registrar auditors.

If you are just looking for a study source for yourself, I would check out "ISO 9001 In Plain English". It walks you through each section of the standard and help you understand the requirements.
