M&TE (Measurement and Test Equipment) Usage Records (Logs)

I have a question that I would like the community send me their feedback. We are in the process of obtaining our ISO 9001:2008 certification and the subject of M&TE has come up. We corrently have a M&TE program that uses NIST traceible standards and the calibration intervals are working fine. We however do NOT currently maintain a useage log for all of our M&TE. In reading clause 7.6 of the standard, I do not see any specific requirement that states that we need to maintain a usage log. I know that many people in different industries do maintain a usae log, but if the standard does not mandate it, then way develop a log?

" the standard does not mandate it, then way develop a log? "

Exactly. If you don't need it, if there's no benefit you can see from it, then don't.

A usage log is a tool and if you see a use for it, then it is worth developing. An example might be if a particular OD Mic is found OOT and you have to trace its use to verify all items are in compliance. The log would be a quick reference tool.
