Hi,
The Machinery directive (2006/42/EC) section 1.2.4.3 defines the requirements for emergency stop for machinery.
There are two exceptions, one of them being about 'portable hand-held and/or hand-guided machinery'.
I have a device which is hand-held that contains a motor but the device is tethered to an operating unit that is not portable. It is certainly movable (weighs about 10Kg) and is not locked down into place.
Think of a dentist drill type scenario where the hand-held unit is the device that the operator holds and uses, but it's tethered with an electrical cord to another device.
Can anyone help with the definition of this and clarify if my device falls under the category of 'portable hand-held and/or hand-guided machinery'?
thanks in advance
