Management Questionnaire

Prior to the next Management Review we are considering 'going back to basics' and asking our management team (all levels) what their concept of Quality is, ie how it affects them, where their problems are, what their solutions are etc etc. Has anyone any 'good' relevant questions. We are hoping to avoid asking individuals to score answers ie 'good to bad' and '1 to 10', instead looking to generate constructive response.

All suggestions gratefully received

Many thanks

Why would you want a checklist for the Management team to fill out?

The Management Review meeting should address specific issues relating to the health of the Quality Management System (Specific input is specified in ISO9001 and AS9100) and the Business in general. These items could be asked during the meeting to get face-to-face questions and answers and action items.

In my opinion, that is adding extra paper and management time, and not really cost value added.

If you do decide to use a checklist for the Management, how are you going to measure the results, and what actions, if necessary, are going to be taken?

Thanks - completely agree Coury - but this will not be part of the Review agenda/process - simply a possible method of generating discussion/action outside the Review and developing 'ownership' of any issues they raise.

Peter,

Maybe I am a little confused here. When you mention in your statement to "generate discussion/action and ownership" this should have already been established. Action items would be assigned during the Management Review Meeting.

If a checklist is what you feel will work for your organization, then so be it. I just don't feel it will accomplish the required results/outcome of the organization and be cost value added. Just my opinion.

hmmm....what their concept of quality is....

What I am wondering is does your management review process focus on quality (a term that I have discovered in industry when used by itself almost always indicates that a person is talking about product quality) or does it focus on the management of systems?

I guess, what I am asking is, exactly what is your definition of what you are asking management to answer. (but, sometimes it doesn't hurt to give them a reality check, just depends on where you are in the scheme of things and if they truly accept you for what you are supposed to do, not just some figurehead required by ISO)

Check it out attached template. Will it help you anyway?
AS,

I think they are asking for a specific checklist that asks certain questions and a scale from 1-10. Not a form to record results of the minutes of the Management Review meeting.

Peter,

Please correct me if I am wrong on what you are asking for?

Peter:

I think you might have a better result if you ask them the following:-

What's your business objective(s)

What's 'your' process to achieve those objectives?

How's the process performing?

What are you doing to correct/improve the process?

These are likely to be more appropriate to their personal goals and objectives (what they get measured on) than, perhaps, talking of relatively nebulous concepts like 'quality'.

I've found these questions to be very revealing - more so in terms of the overall direction of the business and its performance - it would be important for every manager to have a good understanding of that, don't you agree?

Just a thought
