I am unable to motivate our process owners as I don't supervise them. I wonder if my case is the norm or a rare occurence???
Let me suggest FEW MRs have direct authority over most process owners in a QMS. Most Quality Managers (frequent choices for MR) have no direct authority over production folks, but must persuade them of the value of good quality practices.
In fact, running to the boss, saying,
"You have to tell those production guys to fill out Corrective Action Reports." is not really supposed to happen, but the implied threat that the MR "could" involve the boss is what the idea of an MR's authority really means when persuading process holders to actually follow the QMS.
The MR who can't persuade the employees to follow the QMS except by running to the boss for each lapse is usually viewed as a company snitch, not a real professional.
So, when we seek to motivate workers, most folks today feel FEAR is not the best motivator. Perhaps some Cove readers will chime in with ways to motivate which do not depend on fear of reprimand or loss of job.
