Measurement Equipment Revocation - Looking for a Disposal Form with Risk Assessment

Dear All,

I would like to ask your help related to the measurement Equipement Revocation process. Has anybody a measurement Equipement disposal form with risk assessment ? We would like to change a Vernier caliper to a digital caliper. The operation of the caliper is good , not damaged and the calibration was always good. I would like to avoid any NC on an audit regarding the Revocation.

Thanks your help.

It appears that you are looking to follow correct practices.

At my company we always perform a final calibration on an instrument before it is taken out of service, This determines whether or not it was operating in tolerance at the end of life.
If found OOT then an impact investigation is started by the users of the equipment. They are the ones most qualified to determine any risk to processes or products.

Hi. It is a good input to perform a last calibration. Do you perform it internally or with an external lab? My idea is to create a disposal form including a risk assessment part. Eg taken into account the result of the last calibration, any external/internal NC links to the measurement device , taken into account a following process step where the same characteristic(s) controlled. Something like this is my idea.

We do a final calibration, male sure all is still good, then mark it off the list as "Out of Service"

As far as disposal, I let our maintenance department make it unsuitable for use, then throw away the pieces.

The final calibration should take place where it is normally calibrated.

You should already have a process to deal with test equipment that is found to be out of tolerance, use that same process here instead of inventing a new one, this will cause less confusion.

Hi. The problem is that the current process does not state what should we do if a device OOT. This why I have to improve it. After a discussion with our IATF auditor it should be perform a risk assessment as well.

You've discovered (or have been shown) a nonconformity (or at least a serious weakness) in your gage control system. Rather than creating a new form, use your corrective action process.
