Uncertainity of Measurements

Hi guys,

Can anyone suggest how to go about Uncertainity of Measurement for Linear Measuring equitments. Is there any postal course (either through net / anyother means).
Please suggest me where to approach as the Guide for Expressing Uncertainity of Measurements, I found it at very high level for begginners like me.

I was in your shoes several years ago and unfortunately things have not changed with uncertainty much. Prepare yourself for a long battle. Uncertainty is a much misunderstood concept and difficult to come to terms with unless you have a very strong statistics/math backround. Try not to be fooled by shortcuts (puma method and others) The most technically correct is the GUM and some ISO 17025 auditors know it well. On the other hand if you are not trying to become accredited to 17025 or guide 25 you might get by with hueristic estimates or "shortcut methods" it all depends on what your trying to accomplish. I would suggest that as a basic starting point that you read "Calibration Philosophy in Practice" by Fluke Corporation. It is pretty good for learning the basic concepts.
