Metric Gage calibrated to ASME B1.2

A lab just sent back a certification on a Metric Go/NoGo plug M72x4 - 6H gauge having used B1.2 for unified inch screw threads instead of B1.16M for metric M screw threads. When asked why they had not used the metric standard they stated that they converted the unified results to metric. Has anyone seen this before? Is there a precedence?

Not sure if there is precedence for this, but speaking just for myself, if I sent out a metric thread gauge for certification, I would expect that the correct standard (B1.16M) would be used. Although the conversion is pretty straight and direct math there is still a possibility of error, plus all those 'extra' decimal points afterwards.

Thanks Ron, that's how I see this too!

When you sent the gauge for calibration, to what standard did you request it to be calibrated?

Hi Chris, no specific specification was noted on the PO as it was, unfortunately, assumed, that an accredited lab would use the correct spec. That's an error I have addressed.
