Metrics for measuring Return of Investment (ROI) in Safety training

Hello quality pros, please provide your input to the following:

I requested from top management to send me to take a 10 Hour OSHA safety training in order to obtain the competency needed to train our company's plant employees about OSHA minimum mandatory safety requirements. Top management's reply was that I should provide an ROI on their $250investment on my training. It is my personal opinion that the ROI is in the savings on training and the avoidance of risk.

Can you offer and ROI metrics that I could present to management in order to prove my point and get the training. I am the MR and called Safety Manager as well.

Wow, I'm surprised that no-one replied to this!

Juliov - what are your management thinking? Do they understand the downside to an accident/incident through not having this training and you passing it on to others? ROI? What are they thinking with, those guys? Not their heads, but their pocket books/wallets, obviously!
