Re: Windows users: Which windows version?

Just made the same switch when I purchased my new computer. Still use XP at work.

Re: Windows users: Which windows version?

I had to replace my home computer (fried when the transformer leading to my house was struck by lightening) and went with Windows 7. I can honestly say that I don't do much at home, computerwise, so it works fine for me. We use XP at work.

Re: Windows users: Which windows version?

Most of my computers at home are XP, but I have a laptop with 7. As usual, the biggest issue is the software and hardware that you love to use will not work in the new OS - and are no longer supported. My favorite bitmap graphics software is Micrographix Picture Painter - it only half worked on Vista and will not load on 64 bit 7. Bugs the crap out of me.:frust:

I still use XP and I am really satisfied about it!

Windows 7 is too similar to Vista and I have got doubts about its usability!

Yeah. I picked the 32 bit version, and thus far I have gotten all old applications I tried to install to work... In a couple of cases it took a fair bit of tweaking, but still...

So was I, but a while ago my system developed a couple of quirks that convinced me that it was time to reinstall anyway, and I finally upgraded.

I hear you. I never saw Vista as an option, but I have to say that Win 7 has worked just fine so far. So: So far so good. :agree1:

Did you try opening it in XP compatibility mode? Right click on the icon select 'Properties' and you should see a tab for 'Compatibility', try clicking the check box for 'Run this program in compatibility mode for..' and select 'Windows XP (Service Pack 3)'. As for issues, I've yet to run into any running Windows 7 - 64 bit, so far I've very happy with it.

Re: Windows users: Which windows version?

I'm still on XP on my Mac and my Compaq laptop. I have a tower that screwed up (the bios became corrupted) that was XP. It came with XP but the restore disk is Vista Business. Long story but I went ahead and upgraded (about a month ago) to Vista on it. Vista is OK, but really not much different, other than in the UI, than XP.

I may try Windows 7 in a year or so but I'm not in any hurry to upgrade.

There was some tweaks that worked with some programs in 64 bit 7, but the laptop came with 64 bit to accommodate obscene RAM upgrades. I guess one day it may matter...
