Minimum/ mandatory core processes AS9100

Hello,

What are the Minimum/ mandatory core processes in AS9100 company?

I know a company providing (Service) a special process and they called Purchasing is a support process and not one of their core.
they also have 8.5.6 and 8.1.2 as support

I understand that AS9101 calls out Clause 8 to be core and PEAR, KPI,. etc is required for all Clause 8
please correct me if I am wrong here

It’s dependent on the scope. There are no accurate generalities. If a product manufacturer, buying isn’t a core process.
The company is a heat Treat Company

The organization outsources processing includes (tensile testing, X-ray testing, cleaning blasting & NDT). The organization also purchase from supplier (Thermocouples, wires, TUS temperature uniformity survey, calibration for hardness testing, etc.).

- AS9101 calls out clause 8 as an operational process and requires PEAR and KPI.. etc, correct?
- Company also listed (8.1.2 and 8.5.6) as support so those are not included in the PEARs. How product traceability, serial numbers, production changes.. etc are not operational and require PEAR according to AS9101?

Core processes are usually those which the organization does which is their “competency” - in this case heat treatment. They choose to buy those services such as testing and items like thermocouples are not product. Purchasing isn’t a core competency.
Traceability etc are things which are carried out but are not processes.

Hello,

The clue is in the name: core.

The core process is what you do to convert the needs of customers into cash in the bank (aka: the value stream). Or more simply: Get Work, Do Work, Get Paid.

Usually, for an SME, it’s just one; your service which may include manufacturing service.

Your core process will probably comprise several cross-functional or key processes that rely on the effective interaction of functions or departments. Your system also includes several processes that support, direct or improve the core to fulfill the mission of your organization.

what I meant by Core is their Key/ operational processes (according to ISO 9101), which is calls out the operational processes in clause 8.0 and they are requires PEAR and KPI meaning those are Core / / Key/ operational processes (contract, purchasing, design, production, repair)., correct me if I am wrong here !!

I have audited hundreds of companies over 6 years and have never seen a company calls out 8.1.2 support and not included it in their production process

or 8.5.6 (production changes) is not included in their production PEAR

So what if they determine that there is no Key/ core process at all? I should be ok with that too? Just because "they" determined?

btw, those changes in their manual done by someone just start QM position with Zero experience in AS9100
