Model-Based procedures and Architecting the QMS as a System

Hi all,

Would like to see if anyone has had experience with or knows of instances where QMS procedures and documents have been developed as functional models, essentially meaning such procedures are built into PLM/ERP/MES software.

I'm seeing a few software packaging bringing out capabilities for modelling parts and products as SysML models and being able to import them directly as models, surely this methodology can be applied to the design and development of procedures and other traditionally documented process information?

What do you perceive as the benefit of SysML models (or similar) for quality?

I am not familiar with SysML models so I did a search and looked at some example images of such models, but to me they seem pretty opaque, unless you are well-versed in them, and I'm not sure how they could be used.

I see the benefit being in moving quality procedures and documentation from document-based to computer-based and controlled system and inturn improving standardization and making it simpler for persons to follow procedures. Additionally, such model-based procedures and documentation can aid in traceability to requirements, assurance that such requirements are fulfilled at the correct phase and have an automated digital thread if you will.

As for MES integration, I do believe such model-based methods can be used to automate production, having a relationship between process, equipment, resources, and the like. Obviously, this being a topic by itself.
