MSA for resistance measurement

Dear colleagues!

I have a very specific question concerning Measurement System Analysis for performing resistance measurement of metallic parts.

I am struggling to decide if the standard MSA (level 1 + 2/3) is the right way to evaluate a resistance measurement device.
There are so many influences which comes on the one hand from the part itself (e.g. capacity of the part) and on the other hand of the preparation & mounting procedure (e.g cleanliness of the part, connection of the measuring contacts,...)

Does anyone have some experience with this?

These varying factors are not unusual for most measurement systems. They aren’t even an extreme example of system variation. My recommendation is just to perform the MSA and see what the results are. The purpose of an MSA is to understand you r system and improve it if necessary so you can trust the results.

By the way what is a “Level 1-2/3” MSA?

Hello!

Thanks for the feedback, i am still struggling....as there are a lot of factors where i still do not know the influence on the measurement result it is difficult evaluate and improve the system properly.

This is what i meant with Level 1, 2/3 study.....sry, was not explained in the best way

MSA level 1: min. 25 measurements in a row on a master part --> for repeatability
MSA level 2: manual measurement device --> R&R study
MSA level 3: automatic measurment device --> for R&R study

You will continue to struggle until you begin running the tests and analyzing the results. MSA - like all other engineering disciplines - requires knowledge and thought but while necessarry they are not sufficient. You must run the test to understand the actual situation.

I suggest three things

Read what Miner and I have posted regarding MSA and R&R. (You will find these in the resources section here)

Design a level 2 test And run it. If you are unsure of the design come back and we can review it.

Come back here with the results if you have questions and we can help you understand what happened and what your next steps might be.
