MSA - Repeating Gauge R&R to ensure effectiveness over time

Hi all,

I have performed a Gauge R&R with 3 operators with 3 repeats. The total GR&R 14.26 %. Is there any need to repeat the GR&R after a certain period of time to ensure measurement system effectivness. Are there any AIAG guidline regarding this? Also what action should be taken if a operator is consistencly overestimating or underestimating the measurement characteristic.

Assuming that the R&R study was properly conducted to begin with, there should be no reason for repeating it. If the operators were representative of operators who will be doing production measurement, the gages properly calibrated, the results acceptable, etc., you should have learned what you needed to know--that the measurement system is appropriate for measuring the feature/characteristic/dimension to be measured.

Also what action should be taken if a operator is consistencly overestimating or underestimating the measurement characteristic.
If you're sure that an operator is consistently making errors that others of similar training and experience don't make, there may be any number of reasons, including such things as eyesight problems, dyslexia, or attitude.

Gauge R&R studies can be repeated based upon the frequency of the usage of instrument , inspector change , measurement criticality and equipment running cost

The can be, but that doesn't mean they should be. Frequency of usage is largely irrelevant because an assumption of MSA is that devices under test are serviceable and properly calibrated. A change of inspectors shouldn't trigger a new study if the new inspector is trained and experienced. There are better ways of qualifying inspectors. Measurment criticality doesn't change for a given part or feature. If there's a new application, a new MSA might be in order if there's signficant risk. I don't think equipment running cost enters into it at all.
