NAPT's 10V Reference Electricals 732B Proficiency Testing enrollment

Hi everyone,

I have been assigned the task of obtaining ISO 17025 accreditation for my company and I am currently looking into enrolling us in a PT program. We perform electrical measurements, so I identified NAPT's 10V Reference Electricals732B test as appropriate for our needs. NAPT sends us a 10VDC reference standard and we're supposed to measure it with our own Digital Volt Meter.

Is anyone familiar with this test and how the final data/results (with uncertainties) should look like?

Thank you all.
Raluca

I haven't done that specific PT with them, but they will provide a fully detailed report. There is even a short version or long version and my understanding is that it is part of the price you'll pay. They should send you detailed instructions, and besides the measurements, one of the main things you provide is your uncertainties.

Does anybody have any advice/suggestions on which uncertainties should I document for this type of test?

I am so busy that I don't have time to read all of the context. But if your lab is ISO17025 accredited, this should be associated with your CMC uncertainty budget. I can't really tell you how to do that, because that will be based on your developed budget calculations. You would use your uncertainty budgets to calculate the uncertainties as if you are using your accredited standard to calibrate their 732B (I believe). If you do not have an uncertainty budget for this, then I believe you would need to develop one. My use of PT's is in support of my ISO17025 scope of accreditation. I have uncertainty budgets I use for calibrations, and when I do a PT, I use those same algorithms for those calculations.

Can you provide me with your algorithms, if possible? I just want to get a sense of the overall process for doing this so that I can do something similar.

I will be offline the rest of the day. If you could send me a PM, I believe it will send me an email , and I can dig up some Excel with details. If you wish me to send it via email, send me email address and I will send it.

I have worked with the 732B reference cells before. If the time between being plugged in is over 24 hours, you need to let it just sit powered on for 72 hours or more. That provides - MINIMUM - stabilization time.

Measurement is much trickier. If you have something like an Agilent 8840, don't bother. If you have a top end Fluke or Agilent, then you are barely at the appropriate level.

In my personal opinion, this is NOT the best instrument for a PT.

The 732B is the artifact provided by the PT provider I believe. This is for a little lower accuracy DC voltage PT, where the 732B is the reference, and the PT is about measuring DC volts with the users DMM. Not to forget also that the "Hot Cal" from Fluke uses a shipped 732B. When it comes time for me to certify my 732B, and bank of 732A's (not to mention my Datron 4910), Fluke will send me a 732B overnight, and I'll have it for a week to use to measure my 10V values.

So the 732B is considered a portable voltage standard. If allowed to settle for the measurements, both in the PT above, and in my "Hot Cals" (coming up in the next few months), the lab sending it does long term measurements before sending it and another set after they get it back to provide a mean value while the PT participant above and/or my lab for the compared 10 VDC value.

I am totally exhausted.... been working all weekend. So that's it for me for tonight. Have a good rest of the weekend everyone. Sorry if I'm a little snippety (very tired).

When you apply for any NAPT proficiency test they send you the instructions and sample data sheet for you to review. This way you can see if the test is appropriate to your lab's capabilities. After your review you email to them whether or not you accept the test, if you accept it they will get back to you with a schedule as to when you should expect to receive the artifact. If you accept the test and then find you can't perform it after you receive it they will fine you for the effort of sending the artifact and for tying it up from other users, so read the instructions and results sheets carefully.

If you have not heard from them go to their web page and ask them for help, or call them at (952) 303-6126. They have always been very helpful to me.
