Need assistance in GD&T and design of checking fixtures.
I think there is a standard for this? ASME Y14.5M

That standard appears to be correct. It is available for download and in hard copy as are other standards.

Here is a nice looking site on GD&T that even has some nifty calculators and associated little examples. (broken link removed)

The definitions and calculator links on the left bar might be useful for training and as a reference.

Here's a good example of a check fixture standard: https://www.azautomotive.com/GaugeStandard.pdf
Although it appears to be proprietary, it's available on the Web and has no copyright notice on it, so it appears to be fair game. The major automotive OEMs all have their own standards, so you might want to ask your customer(s) about it. The GD&T will invariably be based on Y14.5M (1994 is the current version), but there could be differences among the OEMs in construction standards. As always, when in doubt, ask the customer.
