Need suggestions for a mobile Spectrophotometer (a.k.a. color meter)

How y'all doin'?!? This is one of the first things I learned to say when I moved to NC. Anyway, I would like your input to decide on a specific piece of inspection equipment.

What I am looking for is a mobile (hand-held) spectrophotometer to replace/compliment a desk-top device. The application is for measuring the color in plastic injection-molded parts. The density of color ranges from semi-transparent to opaque. The surface finishes can range from textured to semi-finished (not shiny but smooth) to shiny. The surface shape can range from flat to curved. I am not looking for high end equipment that does SPC and other fancy functions. All I need is something that I can use to measure the existing color, compare it to a pre-set standard for the specific part (delta readings), and tell me if I am within the set tolerance or not. The ability to download inspection data to a PC is optional.

Please let me know if you need more information or if you have any experience with similar applications. Equipment OEM and models would help so I can research them further. Thanks, y'all!

We're partial to X-Rite. I don't have a recommendation on a particular model, though.

We are partial to X-Rite too... They have numerous types of hand-held readers (single angle or multiple angle readers) available. We have tried a couple different manufacturers and models over the years. We currently like the X-Rite SP62 model. There is also a similar SP64 model available. If I remember correctly (I haven't used it in a while), the SP62 is set to provide 5 data points at 5 different angles? You may wish to call their sales reps before deciding on a model as their sales team will try to set you up with the best system for your application and your needs.
