shoot, I just took a big swallow of my diet Pepsi, now I'm wearing most of it.:lmao: I wonder what will happen when I show up at our Red Cross Blood drive soaking wet? Maybe I'll change into my gym clothes.
Actually the lady next to me (reminded me of Berta from Two and a Half Men) was a little upset. I was doing my best to calm her, then when we landed I plowed her over to get out of the plane! Just kidding, there was a young lady that was taking her first flight.

I did get near the pilot the next day (he was a passanger this time) and he mentioned that he was surprised he was able to get us down with out any damage. The plane would not start back up after that I asked him to kindly shut up!

I bit a bullet once, or was it the other way around?

Smoke while in flight is not fun. Back around '82 or '83 when I was crewing Huey's in the Guard while flying in the rain from Fort Smith to Little Rock our cabin filled up with acrid smoke (phosgene was a component) and sparks started coming out of the overhead circuit breaker panel. It seems like the contracted people who installed our wirestrike protection kit had drilled into some wire bundles and they started to short when they got wet. While I was trying to open the panel and the back doors simultaneously the guys uop front were holding their heads out their windows trying to find a landing spot .....phosgene hits your eyes like pepper spray or CN and you cough pretty good as well. In the end the boys got us to the ground outside of Adkins, AR in the middle of I-40.

Smoke in the cabin with 100 or so civilians....yeah, probably exciting;)
The smoke is what made me the most nervous.

A million years ago when I lived out on the prairie, we had a bad time landing in Omaha because of snow, fog, ice and wind. The pilots couldn't see the runway. We made several attempts and the decision was made that after the next we'd be re-routed to Lincoln. We came down, hard and fast, it was a horrible landing. After picking up my luggage, I overheard the pilot and co-pilot discussing how when we finally stopped we nose to the end-of-runway barrier. And people wonder why I hate to fly.

I would still rather fly than drive!

Emergency landing procedure for UH-1 (Huey) at night...slightly condensed

60 knot level flight attitude

300-330 rotor rpm

Turn on landing light

yep, and it's not the flying that bothers me, but the taking off and landing that scares the bejeebus out of me.
Back in the day it was kind of funny. If you were flying United, you would have very smooth take offs and landings. If you were flying Republic, you pretty much got thrown back in your seat and shot straight up in the air. :ko: Figured they must have been Navy pilots from aircraft carriers or something. It was almost like an amusement park ride....:tg:

Don't seem to notice it that much anymore....
