Re: New Folks - Please Take a Minute and Introduce Yourself/Say Hello! Take 2 (2009)

Hi,
My name is Lori.
I've worked in aerospace quality since '91 with the last ten years being in the field of aerospace machining. Started out with D1-9000, then ISO and on to AS9100. I've recently been hired by a small, but very well run, machine shop (3-5 axis machines, CMM). They are currently registered to ISO9001:2008. I've been hired to get them compliant and then registered to AS9100 Rev C. I did not hire on as a consultant. I'm a full time employee with good inspection, CMM programming and Quality Systems experience. I've had questions about the release of the RevC standard and when i google things, this forum always comes up with the best feedback.
I'm new to forums, so I'll have to feel my way through. Looking forward to being a member.

Lori

1. Name: Bill Gotschall
2. Job Title or explanation of what you do: Quality Lead/ISO Management Rep
3. Industry you're in or have been in: Actuated Valve Manufacturing
4. Company you work for and location: KZCO, Greenwood NE
5. Length of time in quality function: 2.5 months
6. Something personal that sets you apart: I am the quintessential optomistic pessimist. I know that absolutely anything is possible but probably won't happen.
7. Your pet peeve in quality (pet peeve is a minor annoyance that can instill a great level of frustration): The assumption that all would be right in the world if the quality assurance person would just go away...
8. If you could change the world of quality, what would you do? Probably just get rid of all of the negative connitations that people have about quality.

I worked production for 15 years, I moved to the machine builders shop in the same company for 5 years then at the tender age of 39 I went back to school to get my engineering degree. Real life got in the way before I graduated and I ended up where I am. I have been working in a small company as an manufacturing engineering tech for a little less than 2 years that has had no structure since it's inception and have now been asked to take on the job of setting up a quality assurance program help get us ISO certified.

I found this site while searching for help and have found it quite helpful. That is very encouraging because I will need all the help I can get!

1. Name: Christopher Stainow

2. Job Title or explanation of what you do: I'm CEO of Lennox Hill which produces hosted QMS software

3. Industry you're in or have been in: Currently in the software industry and previously was in the beer and then the food industry in Europe

4. Company you work for and location: Lennox Hill Ltd which is based in London, UK

5. Length of time in quality function: I cannot really say that I have a "quality function background". I am more a process person and have done that pretty much most of my life

6. Something personal that sets you apart: Part of the team that introduced Budweiser beer in teh UK and Ireland and made an incredible success of it

7. Your pet peeve in quality (pet peeve is a minor annoyance that can instill a great level of frustration): Trying to sell something to somebody who has grasped all the benefits of a product but cannot get approval from above. It may have something to do with my selling skills (or lack of) or simply the economic situation we are still in. Anyway it is a minor annoyance

8. If you could change the world of quality, what would you do?: I have to be careful here as I don't want to be promoting our product. But I would like to get to the stage where our online QMS software application is generally viewed as providing a very straight forward solution, that meets all the requirements, is easy to use, and that is affordable for small to medium enterprises on a world wide basis. That is our internal philosophy and our credo (if you can say that) and we just have to make the outside world feel that way as well
