Re: New Folks - Please Take a Minute & Introduce Yourself/Say Hello! (2009-2010)

This looks to be a great Forum- than you all for the great resource.
My name is Alex Balic, I am the co-owner of a start-up manufacturing company specializing in wiring harness assembly for the defence industry and others. I have been a manufacturing engineer for about 20 years, working in the automotive industry mainly, and my partner and I wish to gain ISO and AS 9001 certification- problem at the moment, ti is just the two of us- we will hire as needed, but we are just getting set up now with a small facility and still getting equipment ordered ect. Is it possible to get some sort of certification, or pending certification in place, since our customers would all like for their suppliers to be ISO certified and it seems that we are in a catch 22 situation. We have minority business and hub zone status which should help us in this area, and getting a quality system in place from the beginning may be easier than trying to convert a non- complying system, but without a number of employees and products already in the works, I am trying to see what can be done right now. Any assistance from the group would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You

Alex

Re: New Folks - Please Take a Minute & Introduce Yourself/Say Hello! (2009-2010)

I work for a staffing agency called StaffWorks and was referred to this site. We are looking for qualified candidates for an Incoming Inspector position with one of our clients. We are hoping that anyone with this type of background will send us a resume for consideration. We post our positions on Craigslist and are having trouble finding qualified candidates. If anyone is interested in finding out more information please email or call us.

Re: New Folks - Please Take a Minute & Introduce Yourself/Say Hello! (2009-2010)

:bigwave: Hi everyone!
I've been a visitor to this site many times and finally decided to join.
I am Peggy (not Margaret ... guess you can tell I get asked that a lot). I have been employed for five years as a Quality Assurance Specialist for an ISO 13485:2003 certified medical device manufacturer in sunny Florida. I am "lead" internal auditor (code for I perform all of them - except for QM and QMS process of course); as the Lead Technical Writer, I am responsible for writing the operator and service manuals for our instruments; and I am involved in providing the necessary documents for our distributors to become certified/registered with ministries of health, etc. in order to promote our products in their countries.

I am a transplant from Michigan where I worked as an Engineering Coordinator for an ISO 9001; 14001 certified materials handling company for 18 years. I miss the Motor City! There's nothing like a Coney Island from "downtown". Sigh.

My Quality pet peeve, "paradigms", as many of you have mentioned.

I would love to be able to give the departments in my company that shrug off their ownership of their procedures a report card with a big fat "F" for failing!

I am thankful for this forum and for everyone for volunteering to share their experience and knowledge! I will do my best to be of help to others as well!
Thanks!
Peggy

Re: New Folks - Please Take a Minute & Introduce Yourself/Say Hello! (2009-2010)

Hi!

My name is Glen and I'm a consultant in software development in Minneapolis. This area is a hotbed of medical device development and I'm doing more of that as time goes on. Doing work effectively and lightly while producing products that can be approved for use in the US and Europe is a challenge.

1) Glen!
2) Principal Engineer
3) Medical devices and factory automation
4) Independent consultant in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
5) Not a "quality" function directly, just write the plans, specs and, sometimes, SOPs
6) I coach hockey and take my Porsches to track days
7) Passive-aggressive engineers
8) Have the standards organizations provide prototype SOPs and work products examples

Great stuff here folks!
