Hello,

Let's start with a brief introduction.

Call me Tuttle.

I am the Quality Assurance Manager and Director for the Management System for a small contract medical device manufacturing company.

I have been in this industry for over 16 years. Prior to that I worked a short time in pharmaceutaical, awhile in the defense industry, did a little chemistry, some manufacturing.

Pet Peeve in business: Very few outside of quality understand that a Quality Management System refers to the way you run your business processes and not how your quality department runs.

I have occasionally reviewed this site as the topics are interesting and informative.

Nice to meet you all.

Tuttle

Welcome to the Cove, everyone! The Elsmar Cove forum continues to expand and grow. For it to continue to do so, please take a minute and help someone out when you can! Helping each other is important, so Jump Right In!

This is the Introductions thread. If you have a Question, please start a new discussion thread in the appropriate discussion forum and ask your question(s). You might also want to do a Search and read through some existing discussion threads to see if your question has already been asked and answered.

This is a carry-over to change the 'Introduction' questions which was requested. There are minor changes to the original questions Greenraisin posted way back in April 2001. That thread was closed (it was very long) and a new one started. Since we are sorta changing the questions, the second introductions thread is being closed today.

So - This is the 3rd introduction thread...

The new questions (which are 'suggestions' and you are not required to answer any) are:

1. Name (Caution - Remember this *IS* the internet)
2. Job Title or explanation of what you do
3. Industry you're in or have been in
4. Company you work for and location (Caution - Remember this *IS* the internet)
5. Number of years in the Business World
6. Something personal that sets you apart
7. Your pet peeve about business practices (pet peeve is a minor annoyance that can instill a great level of frustration)
8. If you could change something in the Business World, what would that be?

Hi,

I'm LXC.

I'm a Quality Engineer for a Nylon processing company. I've worked in research and metrology before. I have experience in the automotive and aerospace industry. I have 13 years experience.

My pet peeve is "production believes Quality is the enemy "

Hi,

I understand that. When I first started in this field, way back when, I had a hard time with Production. It has taken time and many a small battle but quality and production can work together a fair amount of the time.

One thing I have to say is quality is a challenging field.

Hi,

I'm RPS

I'm the QAE Manager of CML and concurrent QAE of the Automotive Business Unit

I have been in the Semiconductor industry for 18 years and 75% of my experience is with Production from Assembly to Finish.

One things that gets me peeved is when Quality is ignored.

Hello, I'm Laura DePinto, Director of Corp. Quality in a Beverage Manufacturing Company with a total of 4 plant Quality Staffs reporting to me in the USA -Northeast, Southeast and Southwest.

Holding a B.S. in Chemistry and M.S. in Management Science, I bring over 30 years of experience in the food industry with an ever inquisitive and analytical mindset.

My continuing "peeve" in Quality is Lip Service. There are so many opportunities to improve, not just product quality, but process efficiencies. Yet in this day and age, there is still often Upper Management reluctance in much of industry to truly embrace the investment in Quality & Manufacturing Accoutability. Quality is often charged with, not only identifying Quality Problems but fixing these when they do not have authority or resource to facilitate fixes. I believe much of this is due to ignorance of the Quality Function and the lack of uniform cross industry costing models that capture actual COPQ costs.

If I could change one buisness practice, it would be the Policeperson/Parental role that Quality often takes in my industry and push accountability and autonomy to manufacturing groups at all levels, leaving Quality to document and monitor processes affording real trends to allow manufacturing to facilitate process improvements.
