New measuring equipment selection (Cg/Cgk)

Hello everyone.

I have a question regarding a new tool selection.

There's a dimension (10 ±0.1) and a new device that we bought to check it - it's a sensor with a resolution 0.01. I chose the resolution by comparing it to the dimension's tolerance (according to the MSA Manual it's 10% of the tolerance.

I tried to calculate a Cg/Cgk for this (50pcs measurement) and the result was always 10.02 therefore the Cg/Cgk result was really huge.
Right now our client claims that the resolution we chose was not correct because we can't see any deviation.

What is your opinion? (who's right?)


Should we buy a new device or the one we have is sufficient?

In my opinion they are not right.

It really depends upon the purpose of the gage. If your gage is used for inspection to a tolerance, your gage may be sufficient for its intended use. However, if your gage is intended for use in SPC or capability studies, it is not sufficient despite having the 10:1 resolution because, as your customer indicated, it cannot see the variation.

Ergh... forgot to write about it. No, it won't be used in SPC or capability studies (and never will). It is just needed to check one distance if it's within the tolerance or not.
That's the reason I think I'm the one who's right :)
