New Supplier QE Seeking PPAP Information

Supplier QE

Hello all....
I am planning on entering the arena as a Supplier Quality Engineer.

I don't have a lot of experience in PPAPS and would appreciate some advice.

I have worked as a Quality Engineer as a Launch Engineer and my QM kept all the documentation on his desktop and didn't "give it up".

How do I begin a PPAP for my suppliers? This is the first of many questions.

Thanks..

Welcome to the Cove :bigwave:

You said you don't have much experience with PPAP submissions. I would suggest, as a starting point, to procure the AIAG PPAP (3rd ed.) manual. Along with that, the PFMEA and APQP manuals will help with the overall picture. Being a QE (ASQ?) i would assume you have a working knowledge of SPC and MSA.

Now that the commercial is done with, my first step with a supplier/vendor is to review the PFMEA and get it "up to snuff". If one doesn't exist, I get the supplier to pull together a cross-functional team (Bingo!! :vfunny: ) and begin walking them through the process. The excersize can be like pulling teeth to start out but staying with it prevents a lot of headaches down the road. In my experience, once the PFMEA is performed, the rest of the PPAP becomes far less formidable.

Hope that helps.

I understand that you want as a SQE to receive PPAP's and approve them.
As you said that you were a Launch Engineer you should have a working knowledge of Flow chart, PFMEA and Control plans.

In this thread https://elsmar.com/elsmarqualityforum/threads/8051/ there is a very comprehensive checklist for a PPAP submission.
Go through it and see wheteher you understand the requirements.
There are clauses that you do not need or want. This is just an example not a must.
Try ammending it to fit your needs.
This should help you to start.
Look at some PPAP's that have been submitted and approved and understand the logic of yuour company to enable you top fit in.
Don't try to invent the wheel, take the parts that you like and are comfortable with.
You as the customer tell the supplier what you want. The rules for accepting PPAP's are not really there.

One important point- tell your customer what you want, this saves time and energy, he then knows what to submit and you know what you will receive.

Happy Hunting
