Re: New to the Quality team.
George, I know this will sound a bit self-serving, but one of your best single sources of information is here on the Cove.
AUDITING:
Many of the folks here on the Cove are some of the most experienced auditors you will find. Take an hour or so and follow Randys posts. You can learn terminology, approaches, philosophies, interpretations, etc. that will form a great knowledge set. Too, it will give you a point of reference when other questions come up.
You could also Follow Sidneys, Hjilling, Paul's, Jennifers, Steel's, oh my.. I'm getting tired.. so sorry if I left someone out. But anyway, read how there are some different interpretations on things; not everything is black/white. But do be a student of the risk-based approach, and not leave common sense out of quality.
QUALITY MANAGEMENT:
Here is where the Cove shines bright, IMO. Just glance through all the posts dealing with QMS not being supported by MGMT., not passing audits, etc. There is so much good up-front activity that can be done to sustain the quality system.
OTHER:
There are multiple specialty areas like inspection, environmental, calibration, others that will enhance your quality knowledge.
An all-around education (Cove, certifications, audit training, local sections, etc.; as suggested by the others) will give you the best knowledge to pull from as you enter your opportunity.
Good luck, and always check in with us.
