New Year Resolutions

Well I'm striving to be a better Christian and a better person in general.

I have a few personal specific issues/habits that I need/want to quit.

My wife and I both bought a "Walk thru the Bible" (I think that was the title). It is a NIV version of the bible that is broken up so that you can read the entire bible in one calendar year (or 365 days) in small chunks with daily lessons and reflections. I'm a little behind but I've read 2.5 days worth. :)
------------------
Finish cleaning/organizing my house so I'm not embarrased to have people over. (My wife and I are both packrats/collectors). Oh and keep it clean :)
------------------
Spend less and buy less junk. (See above section :ko: )
------------------
Spend less WORK time on the internet... OOPS time go.........

Great acronym Wes! Seems whenever we invite someone over, my husband and I are in a frenzied flurry to put the house back to rights! Problem is, we moved to a smaller house with too much stuff. OK, I'll admit it: there is some packrat activity here.

Bob M: I got myself a daily devotions NIV bible a few years ago, and actually read it! IMO, that's the easiest way to read the bible, it doesn't seem so daunting when you take it in sections.

Cari: Like you, I've quit smoking several times, only to go back to it. I didn't resolve to quit for the new year. I find I have to be in the right frame of mind for it to happen, and I'm not there right now. Sounds like you're doing great, keep it up!

Cari and RC: Somehow I've packed on some pounds--just in the last 6 months or so, so I'm with you on the weight loss/workout thing. Well, I'm trying to be with you (as I type this I can see the dusty stairmaster at the other end of the room).

I guess my big resolution is to take the time to enjoy life before it passes me by. I've worked a lot of hours in the past years, not that I don't enjoy working, but I think it's time to really get into my "free time".

Good luck to everyone with your resolutions and happy new year!

Omigosh db, I would go absolutely insane! LMBO funny though! People around here make fun of me because my junk drawer in my desk is organized.

Now the house - that's another story. It's just me in my office - I have to share the house with a packrat hubby and two kids.

Judi makes me keep my office as neat as the living room. :(

To say that I don't suffer from "CHAOS" is an understatement. You could do heart surgery in this place!

I'm resolved to add some of my personality to "MY" office!!!

To help maintain a sense of balance in my life, my house has one simple rule...everything goes back the way you found it, except in the bedroom. Now, before you start thinking the wrong thoughts, that is the only room where I will allow a level of chaos to reign. Clothes may not get put away immediately (if ever). Work and books are frequently scattered around the floor. CD cases are every where. And so. However, it is always dusted and does get cleaned every one to two weeks for vacuuming.

The rest of the house, however, is clean. No dust...allergies. The cat is wiped down for dander and brushed...allergies. Bathrooms clean. Kitchen clean. Almost to the 5th of the 5 S's.

Great rule. My mom tried to teach me that. The problem is we are pack rats that buy/collect to much stuff that doesn't have a HOME, so we can't put it back.

Ever seen the TLC show "Clean Sweep"? 4 months ago we definately qualified to be on the show. We're getting better (mainly from watching the show and building my movie room), but I'm still finding homes for stuff...

I just doubled our closets hanging rods, installed MORE shelves in our storage room, bought and install some hook for stuff like ladders and tools, etc.
Clean clean clean. (Its hard having a storage room that needs to double as a guest room, otherwise I'd probably be done already - I just wouldn't be able to open the door :ko: )

What you are describing is the problem with what is called a "Messy". A Messy will find something they have no place for, and will just sit it down until they find a home for it. They WANT to be organized, but they end up appearing disorganized. However, if you ask them where something is, they will know exactly what pile it is in and will retrieve it just as fast as someone who has a home for all their stuff.

I USED to be that way, now I just throw thing in a general direction. I do have one rule, however, at no time will food ever just sit anywhere. I may have/be a fire hazard, but I don't have ants and critters living in my piles.
