Hi to all! first time to post here. I want to ask the experts out there, can all NIST SP & TN documents, be use as "Reference Standard Procedure" like what the ISO publishes for calibration of some measuring equipment or not?

Good day newcleus,

Certainly NIST special publications can be used as good standard practice reference materials, but I would stop short of calling them procedures because I doubt that is what NIST intends them to be.

Similarly, I don't know of anything ISO publishes for calibration of some measuring equipment. Can you be specific? I've seen manuals and procedures published by commercial sources.

Thank you very much Ms. Jennifer for your reply. So if i use this NIST publications to be my reference for developing an in-house procedure, can the publication or technical note be a standard method/guide or a non standard one? I 'm asking this because i'am concerned on the ISO 17025 clause 5.42 to 5.44 (Choice of method).

Moreover, are procedures published by commercial sources are standard or non standard ones? Is this commercial sources are the OEM providers? Thanks again in advance.

I believe what ISO 17025 means by "standard" is a published standard. ISO 17025 says that it is preferable to use international (ISO), regional, and national (NIST, ASME) standards. I think you're covered there. As for OEM procedures, those I do not believe are considered "standard", though they generally manufacture the equipment to some standard (ASME, IEEE, etc.). You could also look in to GIDEP, if you already have not.
