No response to CAR's - Supplier refuses to answer a corrective action

There is no problem.....

We have experienced this situation with some of our suppliers who are within our company's global family. We find non-conforming product and request investigation and corrective action.
If we get an answer it is usually that there is no problem. Often there is no complete answer received. However we do find that we never see the problem again, ever! We usually close our the CAR with statements about 'supplier has investigated problem and addressed the root cause'.
It isn't ideal but is all that we are going to get from these suppliers and we don't mind too much because the problems go away.
Is this going to cause us problems in an audit? :confused:

Do the problems go away permanently, or just tempararily (are they truly implementing "root cause" corrective action)?

From this recent explanation it appears that beyond the realm of CAR noncompletion, you have some "political" issues that are possible key drivers (i.e. "suppliers who are within our company's global family"). You may want to do as Wes recommended and get on the phone with someone at the supplier's and find out what the "real" issue is. Just guessing but someone there (at a fairly high level) is possibly attemtping to save face - but with the records you're generating that would be a bit tough to do. Do you maintain a supplier rating system, if so does this supplier's performance set off any triggers (if so, sharing that information with them might be an eye opener).

Something else to keep in mind (and Wes hit on this briefly in his post), you might want to ensure that the information you're providing to the supplier (drawings, Purchase Order, etc.) is correct, accurate, appropriate, and understood before poking the bear too hard.

I know I am kinda rambling but I hope you can make some sense of it.

Good point Dave. One other thing I'll throw in the mix to consider....
Are CARs required for every single nonconformance?
I worked at a place where this was our requirement and managing the CAR system became a beast of its own. One thing I've changed where I work now is to define my CAR process to state that CARs will be written for "significant or repeated problems." This allows suppliers to have that "one-time oops," and we still notify them of the issue, but we don't require an official corrective action.
