Hi all,
currently I try to identify the period, which is appropriate for the requirements in 4.5.1. (14001:2004).

Example: The legal requirements regulate the concentration of our NO2 output. Thus we have to measure the NO2 output regularly to show compliance with this regulations. But, how often do we have to measure? Who defines an appropriate period?

Thanks for your help,

aljoscha :)

If you have a regulatory requirement to meet then the regulation itself should dictate the frequency of measurement. If the law doesn't stipulate a freguency then you determine the time based upon whatever you deem to be appropriate to show compliance. Check with an engineer or contact the regulatory agency and ask them.

Why don't you ask somebody who has to comply with the same law how they do it?

just to add to what Randy said - you might want to test it, for example, every 3 months for the first year. then if all results come back okay, maybe drop to testing every 6 months or every year. if you have historic results that can show continuing compliance then you can decrease your testing frequency and still have a "warm fuzzy" feeling. I would try to find out what is standard testing frequency in your industry by speaking with others or the government regulators as Randy suggested. or you could call in a consultant that has worked in the industry and have them set up a sampling program.
