Non Aerospace topics - Anything for military trucks, trailers, Humvee type vehicles?

I've been looking through this section but I don't see anything about non-aerospace QMSs. Is there anything for military trucks, trailers, Humvee type vehicles?

If you are AS9100, Aerospace is usually a significant part of your business. Military trucks, but not Humvee types, are usually modified commercial trucks. Commercial truck companies are more likely to fall under either ISO 9001 or IATF 16949.

NADCAP could be applied to military land vehicles processes, but I am not sure if there are any companies in this market, that are not also aerospace, with NADCAP or if there is a rule not allowing it.

I saw something a while ago about the humvee replacement which would have more off the shelf parts used to make their repair and down time more cost effective maybe that's what outdoors is alluding to. Speaking from my own experience there is usually a marked difference between military and commercial vehicles (usually with British military ones they have a water boiling facility somewhere as standard, as how else do you make Tea)

To be clear, when I said “modified,” I meant the military truck design was derived/modified from a commercial truck design, not that a commercial truck was built and then parts taken off and new parts added.

I worked for Freightliner for several years. The military trucks were different than a highway truck, but shared many components with an off road truck package you might find on a dump truck, logging truck, oilfield truck, or similar.

I did a lot of work on the parts catalog that was sent to the military, which the military then used to create their own manuals, and I could identify parts similar to civilian applications because we tried to reuse preexisting documentation for an assembly whenever possible.

One model of military truck was based on the commercial FLD model. A second was based on a Western Star design. Even a bomb resistant truck shared parts. For the bomb resistant design, the cab body and cab mounting was custom, but the interior used some parts common to commercial off road trucks and the chassis, suspension and driveline were similar to off road commercial trucks.

Many military trucks are 6x6, which while not common, was an option for the base commercial truck. All the military trucks had lifting points and heavy steel utility boxes which I never saw on a civilian truck.

I found a photo of a M915A5 truck that is a Western Star derivative. Some to all versions of the M916 and M917 were built by Freightliner, and while looking up the military designations, I found references to Kenworth, International/Navistar, and Mack all building military trucks. While I did not find any information, I strongly suspect Oshkosh uses many parts that are either the same or close derivatives of off road commercial truck parts in order to gain the cost savings and reliability benefits of using an existing design.
