Hey everyone, I have another question
The company I am interning with is on their way to becoming ISO compliant. In doing so, the QA manager and I took a serious look at our final inspection area and found that because our final product is made of hardened tungsten carbide, they go through carbide tipped calipers every three months or so. The OD jaws are usually fine, but it is the ID's that wear quickly.
This was shocking to say the least. I have been brainstorming ideas to get around this problem and was thinking about measuring equipment that doesn't contact the parts. Something along the lines of laser mics or ultrasonic measuring equipment.
The measurements we deal with are no smaller than .001". I have never used a laser mic before so if anyone has any insight, cautions, suggestions, or any input at all I would greatly appreciate it. Or if anyone would suggest any piece of equipment to measure ID's that wouldnt wear as quick as the calipers, it would be a big help. If anyone needs additional information, just ask!
As always, thanks!
