Every Registrar is under the gun,

A major is due to not taking the process seriously at one time or another.

Because of major supply chain disruption, and horrendous recalls for risk that has grown exponentially. The IAOB and Transplants are duly pissed.
There has been a turn over of retirements that has eliminated the status quo in the IAOB.

Many SQA are using VDA 6.3 risk assessment much more actively.

You need to be effectively conducting process based layered audits and covering your issues with real Corrective Actions.

With TS4 there is no excuses. Only actions or DeCert and you had damn well cover all of the bases.

The days of revenue stream auditing are over..
Bleak, but this is Automotive and we are servicing the toughest customers that exist.
This is why any QA Manager is worth 100 k +
Good auditors never do "revenue stream audits." Those that do should be fired....those that hire such auditors will eventually be filtered out one way or another...

IATF requires a re-audit to close major non-conformances. My registrar calls them 'special audits'. They are not the normal recertification or annual surveillance audits. They are 'special' :)
Majors must be closed onsite...not really a reaudit, but we do reaudit certain bits and parts. We have been required to close majors onsite more or less for years....now they call them special audits, but they are predominately audit corrective action closure visits...they can lead to more...

Re: Notification to Customers regarding Major Finding

The IATF Rules have changed wording some, but the 4th Edition says this plus more. Might you know what recourse a company might have when possibly facing a failed special audit by the registrar? Your speedy feedback is greatly appreciated!!!!!

I am going with cl 5.11.2 that you cited...if a major is not closed within 90 days...it is decertification...I have had a couple clients get mighty close to that...hold to the 60 days. If it is an onsite major, ask the auditor for clarification...do really effective corrective actions...call a GOOD consultant if you are very concerned you may not be ready...

I was one of the First 100 certified Lead auditors to TS2 by Omnex Toronto Jan 2003 and lead Nemak SA to their certification at Southfield MI in July 2003 and the Monterrey MX Plant during Nov 2003. I was our Lead Auditor at the Sales office, and a resident Engineer at Ford Romeo until 2007 when Ford made survival changes prior to the onset of the great recession.

After leaving Nemak I worked for RAB-IATCA IAQC-SEG and was chosen to be in the group that was looking at Systems Effectiveness, and the lack of teeth that AS 9100 had.

I was at Hamilton Sundstrand during a visit that had their Registrar Auditors there doing the Rockford IL during week BSI was their registrar.
Their Lead Auditor was very distraught because of total systemic failure of four areas. He called Herndon VA and was instructed that UTC was their biggest client, and that he was not going to endanger this long standing relationship.

This illustrates that ISO Registrars are a dime a dozen, and the TS Registrars are static, and possibly shrinking as the IAOB moves forward.

The TS standard in China was a joke, and lead to risks that will now drive a new wave of "In-sourcing".

Your resume reads well...but is not relevant to my point. My resume is pretty extensive as well... ...But, my point was that good auditors don't settle for revenue generating audits, and good CB's don't either. Those that do should be censured.

If you are a certified company, and you have a poor auditor or a poor CB, CHANGE to someone worthwhile. If you don't, you are wasting your money. That way, the bad ones will go out of business and poor auditors will become unemployed. Cull the herd...

I have worked with a lot of good auditors, and a few poor ones. The good ones push their clients to good performance. Most of my clients have excellent performance metrics, and I don't settle for less... many of my clients request me for that reason...because they want the push to better performance. The ones that don't want that...don't become my clients.

As ANAB stated in their communique - Heads Up #61- "Outputs Matter!"
That's what customers want. That's what good auditors and good managers want....

We had a couple of majors in one of the TS audit and by rule#4 had to notify Chrysler; the certificate was suspended for 110 days during which we had a follow-up audit by the registrar. We passed during the follow-up audit and our TS certificate was re-instated. My understanding was that if we did not pass the process of revocation will start and we have to go through the stage 1 and stage 2 process again.
