Hi,
I need some help! Can someone tell me what exactly NPI Readiness mean?
I think that is related to the procedure for a new product introduction involving work instructions, other client requirements procedures, documents, team assigning, and line layout and so on. It is correct? This is EMS related.
Thanks.

Re: NPI Readiness - Definition

Yes, NPI = New Product Introduction
Different industries will have different NPI requirements.
I'll try to explain NPI from a subcontractor (Test house) perspective.
Pls note that each company will have their own NPI system.
The purpose of NPI is basically
(1) to ensure the successful transfer of new products or introduction of new products
(2) to ensure capacity meets new product initial demands .
It covers all aspect of the operation from contract review through operational readiness.
Typically, NPI is leaded by an NPI coordinator and in our case by the
TPM (Technical Program Management) team. I would say, it is in some ways
relatively similar to APQA. Listed below are some of the roles of each
dept.

NPI Coordinator
To lead the NPI team for new product transfer.
To work with or liaise with respective customer representative/co-ordinator for necessary information and establish the transfer date.
To monitor and ensure customer 1st order is met and manufacturing readiness.

Product Engineering Representative
To ensure that test program, Golden Modules and DIB are available and ready based on transfer date.
To conduct Tester Correlation Test if required.
To follow up if customer qualification is required.

Planning Representative
To set up new part number and routing in SAP system.
To follow up on schedule of deliveries of modules in order to meet 1st order.

Industrial Engineering
To determine requirement for final earn hours (FEH) and if capacity is available.

Finance
To determine and set up cost roll-up for new part number.

Purchasing
To identify and order the required raw materials for production.

Equipment Engineering Representative
To conduct Equipment Qualification Test.
To coordinate and ensure the readiness of the Interface.

Quality Representative
To coordinate and follow up on First Article submission and approval.
To ensure all customer quality requirements are rec'd and understood.

Manufacturing Engineering Representative
To review and setup the MES for production use.
To provide First Article upon customer requirements and submit to QA representative for the necessary approval.
To determine if new process is required.
To determine if consumables for the products is available for qualification.
To follow up on availability of all drawings, specifications, requirements and instructions.
To coordinate and ensure dummy devices, for new form factor, are available for qualification.

Training
To follow up on all necessary training is carry out for the new product.

Customer Service Representative
To advise and provide pricing and PDL information for new part number.

Hopes that this helps.
thks.
jeffrey.

Hi All,

I've read through many NPI threads and was wondering if anyone has an actual NPI process flow diagram they would like to share or a process of concept to delivery of a product.

Thanks in advance :)

It has only been a year since NPI dept was introduced in our organization. I have'nt seen any NPI process flow yet. However my perception of thier function is not very much different to overseeing a Product Design Review or Engineering Change Review. In addition to owning the Quality of the new product though, they also own the input planning, prototype building, and customer qualification (which used to be owned by several groups like QA, Manufacturing, and others). After all aspects of manufacturing has stabilized, the product is turned-over to the usual/mass-pro depts (PPIC/QA/Operations, etc). So far that is all i understand about this function.

Hi quality1,
Our organization established NPI and they are considered as the authorized body to make sure that all new product activities are being track, monitor and synchronize within the Organization. NPI activities includes the following: Creation of an over-all project timeline for new projects from conceptualization to customer closure.; Formation of task force group for every new project from Customers. Group members include but not limited to, depending on project requirements: R&D, Production Engineering, Quality Assurance, Electrical & Maintenance, NPI, Process Engineering, etc. They also serve as a liason of new project activities with internal and external customers. Responsible in consolidating all project documentations and ensure that the conclusion of project closure is approved by the customer.
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
raffy
