Re: NPI Readiness - Definition
Yes, NPI = New Product Introduction
Different industries will have different NPI requirements.
I'll try to explain NPI from a subcontractor (Test house) perspective.
Pls note that each company will have their own NPI system.
The purpose of NPI is basically
(1) to ensure the successful transfer of new products or introduction of new products
(2) to ensure capacity meets new product initial demands .
It covers all aspect of the operation from contract review through operational readiness.
Typically, NPI is leaded by an NPI coordinator and in our case by the
TPM (Technical Program Management) team. I would say, it is in some ways
relatively similar to APQA. Listed below are some of the roles of each
dept.
NPI Coordinator
To lead the NPI team for new product transfer.
To work with or liaise with respective customer representative/co-ordinator for necessary information and establish the transfer date.
To monitor and ensure customer 1st order is met and manufacturing readiness.
Product Engineering Representative
To ensure that test program, Golden Modules and DIB are available and ready based on transfer date.
To conduct Tester Correlation Test if required.
To follow up if customer qualification is required.
Planning Representative
To set up new part number and routing in SAP system.
To follow up on schedule of deliveries of modules in order to meet 1st order.
Industrial Engineering
To determine requirement for final earn hours (FEH) and if capacity is available.

Purchasing

To coordinate and follow up on First Article submission and approval.
To ensure all customer quality requirements are rec'd and understood.
Manufacturing Engineering Representative

To provide First Article upon customer requirements and submit to QA representative for the necessary approval.
To determine if new process is required.
To determine if consumables for the products is available for qualification.
To follow up on availability of all drawings, specifications, requirements and instructions.
To coordinate and ensure dummy devices, for new form factor, are available for qualification.
Training
To follow up on all necessary training is carry out for the new product.
Customer Service Representative

Hopes that this helps.
