We are using CNC lathe for machining a internal O-Ring groove. Can any one help me proposing inspection method other than digital groove caliper prior to removing the part from lathe. Size 3mmX42mm.
Would it be possible to use a probe head combined with a disc stylus in your machine? That would solve the problem, but may be a bit expensive unless you already have a probe head for it.
At the machine we use Bryant Gages a lot, ID bore gages, and ID mics. On the cheap we'll occasionally use telescoping gauges & ID calipers with a mic when we can't get a size and have to check it now. You can get ID bore gages custom made for larger IDs.
Several manufacturers come to mind. Try Dyer, Dorsey, Mueller, Starrett; look for I.D groove gages and you will find various configurations. There is also a device usually named "Indicating groove caliper"; some of these have contact points that can vary the range.
