Objectives for Receiving Inspection (Resources)

Hello everyone,


At the beginning of the year, we must determine objectives, both corporate and departmental ...

If we look only at the quality function, what objectives can we give to our inspection resources (at the receiving)?

I had a discussion with a receiving inspector today. The discussion was informal but we can see quite quickly that the staff is lost when it is time to suggest goals ... it is a little better at the technicians level but still not easy either ... it may even be difficult for the majority of people.

Since the discussion was informal, I had at best only leads but I was wondering what objectives were given to your inspection function ... or what objectives should an inspection department have ...

Decrease inspection time?
Adjust inspection according to the percentage of conforming parts?
Identify important dimensions to check?
Provide indicators related to inspection?

Suggestions ?

What about something as basic and as critical as:

Prevent the introduction of nonconforming parts in the production line.

That's what incoming inspection should be all about. Creating objectives such as "decreasing inspection time" could be counterproductive as it could lead to rushed inspections which are less effective.

From a big Q perspective, the organization should have a long term goal of reducing reliance on all types of inspection, including incoming inspection, as inspection is inherently, to a degree, ineffective.
