Observed Audit Behavior - Internal auditors having lunch with the auditees

If we are talking about the Internal Auditors for the same company, than what is the problem? They are employees of the same company. Why should being an Internal Auditor have any impact on who they have lunch with. This sure doesn't make sense to me. :confused:

Wow! :mg: … if your company is giving a free dinner for internal audit activities, you must belong to the top 10 companies…

…not for anything else, but a free dinner thing is usually being done during external audits… and I guess, there is nothing really wrong about it… :nope:

If I couldn't have lunch with my auditees, I'd be eating alone forever.

We take our third party auditors to lunch. I don't see a difference. If the auditee and auditor can behave professionally and do a good quality audit, sharing lunch is a great idea.

And besides, this is also a good opportunity to poison your auditor… :lol: he he he, of course I was kidding… what I was trying to say is, you can use this opportunity to know your auditor competency… and it’ll be a good historical data for your factual decision making for your next audit… :cool:

Determining auditor competency comes from seeing the audit results they get, not having a 'nice chat' over lunch.........:yes:

…not for anything else, but a free dinner thing is usually being done during external audits… and I guess, there is nothing really wrong about it… :nope:

If my internal auditors come in on their day off to help the company and get no other perks other than their base pay for auditing (there is no pay differential, no added bonus, nothing) then I am going to do my best to make sure that they get a free lunch out of it. This is one of the simplest things a company can do, and it goes a long way in the atta boy column.

I know you are joking, but we lost an FDA inspector to food poisoning on day two (btw self administered - she didn't want to join us for dinner), she flew home and the audit was cancelled. Didn't see another audit at that plant for a year!

....... and no, I am not advocating poisoning auditors, just passing on an anecdote!:cool:

Oh well... Guess I was unique when I worked for the FDA. Many times I had food poisoning and continued on with the audits. Once, I've sliced my right hand departing from the plane in Switzerland. Got stitches and continued on with the audits via tape recorders + notes taken by the regulatory compliance people.:2cents:

Well, what I’m trying to point out is the “anticipation” for your still incoming audit… when you wait for the audit results (just to know your auditor competency level), then it’ll be too late for you to anticipate his moves…

…you can use your first lunch together to know his strongest point e.g. if he is a mechanical engineer, chances are, he is going to screw you deeper in your process where mechanical thing is involved or whatever field he is expert… once you have an idea of his expertise, then you can somehow "hint" your next department to prepare for things he might be looking for… (I’ve learned this technique from our HR Manager in my previous company)…

…and mind you, as an auditor, it is really good impression if the organization is somehow well prepared for you… it makes you think their seriousness on their commitment and that they are an organized management…

…btw, it also reflect in the audit report… your organization strong points…
