OLD Standard Documentation QS-9000 & TE (Tooling and Equipment suppliers supplement)

Our company had purchased many copies of the QS-9000 and TE supplement standards from AIAG. Since that standard is about to be obsolete... what can I do with these numerous copies? I don't feel right about just throwing them away (There's probably 10 copies of each). Is there someplace anyone knows of that I can donate them to? (colleges?) or is there some type of requirement that tells me I have to hold a bonfire (lol). Or should I sell them on e-bay and tell the bosses that's my bonus for this year? (OK... I'm kidding here)...

So....you had 1 copy for every 5 people?:D
If you put them e-bay you will lose money, maybe you could sell them to the
fast food places.;)

The old QA Mgr. was a bit obsessive... Every internal auditor had a copy, then ever Manager and Director had a copy. I think even the trash men had a copy (j/k). I've been cleaning out old files and getting all my information binders into groups. It's been almost 2 years since I took this position. I didn't have time off the bat to go through all this stuff because I was busy implementing 9K2K and then other business related stuff got me sidetracked.

Although if I do sell them on e-bay, I know I am going to loose money. But maybe it will be enough for me and say the President to have lunch together and talk about Continuous Improvements with 9K2K that we have implemented. It would still be work related...

If I do hold the bonfire.... I will let all know when... :biglaugh:

If you haven't got the idea yet, the point is "obsolete is obsolete!"

Every organization, as part of its document management process, needs a disposition and disposal system for obsolete documents. The primary reason is to assure no confusion between current and obsolete which might result in nonconforming products or services reaching customers.

Thus said, many document management systems make provision to keep ONE historic obsolete document in a limited access archive for future reference if any question should arise.

"Disposition" and "disposal" are not necessarily synonyms. "Disposition" generally refers to changing location of documents, while "disposal" generally refers to destruction.

I can't think of anyone who would need more than one copy of an obsolete Standard for archive purposes.

If it makes it easier to think of disposing (and destroying) such documents, simply think about disposing of expired bus passes or expired driver's licenses once the new one is issued. There may be folks interested in the old photo on the document, but they aren't much good for anything else.

Yes, I know Obsolete is Obsolete... I just didn't know if any type of organization such as a local college could use them for "whatever" reason. They are old information, but sometimes studying history provides many clues into current practices and future practices.

All the manuals distribution were controlled, and I have accounted for every single one. It's just so hard seeing all those paid for books being thrown out.. But I will get over it. Even seeing my ratty old QS-9000 Standard and TE standard will be great to see. LOL...

My office right now literly looks like a bomb went off. I have 2 copy paper boxes full of office supplies and about 15 in/out boxes, several paper sorters, and 4 garage fulls of stuff to throw out. ;)

You should frame one and create a shrine where auditors and consultants would go to pay homage to the standard that brought them so much $work$ over the years....

:bigwave: I'm holding a QS-9000 and TE Supplement bye bye party. It's gonna be at the AIAG, and we are going to have a party in accordance to the QS-9000 TE standard. Which means that it's gonna be a "20 hour run" (j/k).

Ok... so really I just wanted to get back with you all and let you know that I have disposed of (properly) about (15) QS-9000 standards and (10) TE Supplement standards. So, I feel pretty liberated. I am now going through all the old obsolete files and burning them onto a CD to be rid of them in the computer. They were filed in seperate folders that only I could get to and all are marked Obsolete. This is great! I'm having a ball overhead getting rid of all the old stuff!
