On PFMEA for danger labels - Label always should be assigned severity 10 ?

Thinking in all electrical family products with danger label that show the possibility of electrical shock in case of you use incorrectly the product or in case of you touch electrical components when the product is put in on , if we rate the severity of 10 the rule is redesign to reduce the severity , it make sense? but In my understanding in our cars we have several labels showing danger for instant on battery or electrical components because is not possible always to eliminate the risk then only the builders cars put a visual aid to prevent the injury, what do you think about it?

Good day Jose, I am sorry for the delay in this response.

Severity in FMEAs is about effect. I could get a shock from 12 volts and come to no harm, so a lower Severity should be assigned than, for example 220 volts, a level at which a shock could kill me.

You are correct that engineering solutions are the accepted means to reduce Severity.

It is not completely clear whether your question pertains to the electrical products or the labels for such products.

There is a hierarchy of actions to take for hazardous products.
  1. Designing out the hazard is always the most desirable, but cannot always be done and retain the function of the product (e.g., chainsaw)
  2. Add guarding to prevent exposing the user to the hazard is next. Again, this is not always feasible (e.g., chainsaw)
  3. Add warnings to advise the user of the hazard. This is always the last resort if the first two are not feasible.
