On spontaneous but non-standard rankings

Another question I got for which I'd be curious to have your opinion: we are copy-pasting standard functions and their failures to several Gears along a "drivetrain".

For example, one of the failures is that the torque transmission is noisy. Now one of the engineers rightly noted that the risk of noise is higher in the faster rotating gears.

I told him that the standard FMEA methodology unfortunately did not include a way to take into account that sort of nuance in the S,O,D ranking. Would you claim otherwise?

Some people have adopted the S,O,D methodology to the risk of other negative events or conditions, besides failures per se. If the customer expects a quiet gear train, then that quality becomes part of customer satisfaction with the product. Failing to deliver a quiet gear train could be considered a failure.

@Cephissus Yes, I would claim otherwise as the full method envisions you working from an architecture of your product, and appropriate boundaries are set to limit the FMEA sessions you do, both at which level of detail as well as between distinct parts (often based on functionality, but not necessarily restricted to that). For the input of these, the expected rated speed could be a differentiating factor, generating a separate FMEA.
See also the use of the P-Diagram for (D)FMEA's (e.g. FMEA Corner: Parameter Diagrams (P-Diagrams)). I would recommend the book by Carl Carlson.

Hey Jean_B I am not sure I understand what you mean, could you give an example of what you mean?
