Hi.
We have determined one of our significant aspects is "use of electricity". I am wondering if I can find an example of an operation control for "energy conservation". Since the scope could be plant wide and would make it hard to write an Op control, we plan to target just our main machine which uses most of the electricity by better operating procedures.
Any suggestions, templates examples would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
A documented operational control procedure is required only as long as it's
"absence could lead to deviation from the environmental policy, objectives and targets".
The standard stipulates that such operations are carried out under
specified conditions by
stipulating operating criteria in order to ensure that those operations do not exceed the specified performance standards.
It's very difficult to control/ manage the aspect plant wide unless specific responsibilities, objectives & operating criteria are defined at different functional /sectional levels for achievement of particular goals.
As for procedures, these can be step-by-step work instructions or process flow diagrams or data sheets with the following information:
1. Specific operating criteria
2. Controls that need to be in place for operating the equipment/ process ( this can inter alia include Manufacture’s operating instructions)
3. Maintenance schedule and specifications (per manufacturer's instructions)
4. Training requirements of the staff engaged in operation & maintenance
5. Specific purchase policy, e.g for buying or rewinding electrical motors that consume almost half of the electrical energy
6. Need for monitoring or measurement, e.g. load, operating speed, vibration, temp., power quality problems (voltage, current leakage, line losses etc.)
7. Need for corrective actions / preventive actions
8. Records to be generated
Hope this helps.
