Re: Opinion: Lead auditor online training?

That may solve both issues... you need a vacation, we need someone to teach us about LA. 2 birds, 1 stone! And you could hit up Vegas on your way back! :lmao:

KWalls - you always ask interesting questions!

As a long time instructor of the LA auditor courses, I can tell you that you'd be missing out on a lot. Gidget has already spoken of the interaction, but (I know she'd say this too) there's way more to it than the learning experience. $1500 isn't bad for and (accredited) RABQSA LA course. You will get to see other people in the role of auditor, get to discuss far more than simply the audit process, hear much more than just what the instructor brings, since many attendess have already 'been there, done that', so you'll get different perspectives and have some validation too. You can have your specific industry's 'spin' put on answers to your questions too - which isn't going to happen on line (even if there were an accredited class available).

And, of course, if you choose the right location, you get some kind of vacation in a nice place. Sure you'll work hard during the day/some evenings, but normally there's time for the group to go visit a nice resturant, see a show etc.

You have a standing invitation to one of our courses, if your boss ponies up the money.........
I agree with Andy, online courses are generally not suited to internal auditing. It takes a lot of interaction to teach well. ...and I would also toss my hat in the ring. I get out to LA several times a year. If we can get a few people together, we can do the training onsite and be a lot less then 1500 per person. (I am qualified to train to both ISO 9k and TS. We do a great 3 day course). Did I mention I like LA...

Re: Opinion: Lead auditor online training?

I have had a few invitations to go to some courses in San Diego as well as Anaheim (which would be nice because it's a little closer) but my boss just can't see ponying up even $1400 for my training and having to pay my daily wage. I used to have carte blanche...

Would this be considered a lack of buying into the system?? :lol:

I offer a 3 day training for internal auditors for only $499. Now, while the training is very good, it is way underpriced, and future sessions will likely go up a bit. So, get it while the offer remains...:D

Also, it is usually in boring places like Ohio, but I would be happy to put one on in So Cal...

Online training has its place, & can be very effective (including cost) in some circumstances, and where appropriate. I've seen it done very well, for example, to roll out compliance training in financial institutions, to ensure that a geographically disperse workforce received the info they needed to comply with new legislation, and the organisation could also demonstrate that its people had achieved a demonstrated level of awareness.

But I don't think it's acceptable for training an auditor, and most particularly not a lead auditor.

Understanding the Standard? Yes, quite possibly could be done well online. But auditing? No, no, and no again.

Just for interest's sake, I followed up a link to an 'online audit training' site, and tried out a few of their sample courses. Now there's an hour of my life I'll never get back, & it was pretty much what I expected. Not impressed at all - very simplistic.

For certain bodies of knowledge and skill sets, the ancient Chinese proverb is very appropriate:
Tell me and I'll forget;
show me and I may remember;
involve me and I'll understand.
Engage and you shall learn.

Yes, and we must also remember:

Build a man a fire and he'll be warm for a day.

Set a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.
