Opposite Parts - Mirror Image FAI Requirements

Covers,
I have a discussion with my peers as usual on a identical opposite part (mirror image or left and right).
Do we need to perform a full FAI on both of the parts or just on one (either, left or right) and then do a Delta FAI on the other one.
In my opinion we need to perform two full FAI's for each, correct?
thanks:

Is this an aerospace thing (AS9102)? How are the parts made?

They have different part numbers because they have fundamental differences from one another and are not interchangeable. AS9102 is clear on the requirements and doesn't make this differentiation an exception.

Re: Opposite Parts/ Mirror Image FAI's.

IMHO, If they have different part numbers, they need separate FAIs.
If the LH and RH part(s) are coming from a family mold that are cavity specific, why a FAI cannot be made for both the LH and RH parts together, covered with clear part numbers of both, addressing all cavities .....
They drop off from one process. One FAI makes sense.

Re: Opposite Parts/ Mirror Image FAI's.

AS9102 Rev. A, Section 5.3 states:
"FAI requirements may be satisfied by previously approved FAI performed on identical characteristics of similar parts produced by identical means. When FAI requirements (partial or complete) are satisfied in this manner, identify the approved configuration in the index of part numbers on Form 1"
I had this same issue with parts that were mirror images of each other. What I did, per my customers agreement (who quoted the statement above), was perform a detailed FAI on one part and on the other part I checked the partial FAI box located on Form 1, field 14. In the "Reason for partial FAI" section I stated part is identical to part number XXXXX (mirrored part number). I also filled in the "INDEX" section, fields 15 thru 18 on Form 1 making reference to the mirrored parts FAI.

I can say I have done this on more than one occassion for different customers (UTC members) with no issues.

Thanks, for that. I only deal in AS9100 and am still learning. Will keep it in mind though because we have a lot of same/similar parts in AGE support equipment.

I do think that Frank T statement makes sense and I may give it a try.
Thank you all, and I hope you are enjoying the holiday season.
