Other Company's Documentation - Registered as External Documents

Hi all,
Greetings to all of you.

I have this client having two different scopes of work, two different company names, but at one office, one management, and one organization.

At the moment, they are running two different sets of ISO 9001:2008 QMS documentation.

I'd like to propose an idea to use only one set of documentation for the two companies, but still use different quality manual for each company.

The idea is to have one set (let's say company A) documentation, registered as documents of external origin (external documents) in the other company (let's say company B).

Could this be possible and will this not be violating any compliance to ISO 9001:2008 requirements, because right now, the idea just popped out, and I said why not, but still, really need your advice, guys.

Thanks.

Re: Other company's documentation, registered as external document

When you say the scope of work differs, the scope of company A may be little or entirely different from the company B, and so will be the documentation.
So in what way will the documents of A be external to B ?
The need is to ensure that documents of external origin determined by the organization to be necessary for the planning and operation of the quality management system are identified and their distribution controlled ?
Changes made in company A documents may perhaps defeat the QMS purpose of company B.

Thanks for the reply Somashekar, and the ~~ warm welcome ~~

Company A and B have the same supporting process but with different products. It's their marketing strategy. Same organization, same office, but differs in factory and warehouse location.

So basically, the different documentations would only be for manufacturing process only. Procedures, forms, standards, other than the manufacturing process' would be uniform in words and implementation.

Yes, the changes in company A (whose documents are registered as external documents) would be controlled in company B.

My idea is to include all uniform procedures, forms, standards, in company B's list of external documents, and used them as working procedures and records (for the forms).

Will this feasible, do you think?

Thanks!

Documents of external origin are such of those documents coming out from customer specifically (they are both documents of external origin and customer property) or being system standards and technical standards which govern your activities, and such other.
You can have a more simplified approach
Company A has all the processes and documentations
Company B has some processes and its documentations and the rest are outsourced to Company A and due controls exercised.
It does not matter if the same people are there in company A and company B and they are located and operating from the same premises. You are sharing common resources of one certified company based on your business convenience.
You are provided with the "Control over outsourced process options" for your use.
See and document your business process as you operate and avoid duplicate documenting. Then map the requirements of the standard around your business process.
Do not go to meet the standard. Rather see how the standard can be mapped to how you do business. Realign where necessary.
Document this clearly in respective company levels of your documentation.
