If a company decides to outsource one of its major process considering the cost less cost involved in outsourcing, which major things to be addressed in the QMS ?
Points you should consider:
The verification activities performed by the supply chain shouldn't be used by the company as evidence of effective control of quality - you can't wash your hands of that responsibility.
The company will need to have a method in place to assess the outsourced group, depending on their approvals. Can they disposition non-conformances on their own? Do they need to tell the company when a non-conformance occurs? Do they have delegation of verification? Are they willing to accept possible audits by the customer or company?
In a nutshell, you have to treat them as if they were performing work within your walls.
We use a Supplier Quality Manual for these points and the outsourced group is required to agree to the outlined responsibilities in writing.
