Hi guys,

Just want to know everyone's experience about OTC and POM, i.e. whether if it is not POM, then it is essentially PTC, and vice versa, and is the definition of OTC or POM essentially the same everywhere in the world, or there is slight difference is some countries.

Thanks.

OTC = Over The Counter
POM = Prescription Only Medicine
PTC = ?
There is a related term--Pharmacy and Therapeutic Committee--but I don't think it makes sense in this context. I think PTC was a typo and the OP meant OTC.

Hi Jim

I agree. 'P' is next to 'O' on a standard qwerty keyboard. I'm sure the OP will clarify.

Hi,

In general, there are formal definitions for these terms and it's NOT up to the manufacturer. Every regulatory territory has it's own definitions and they can be quite different. Sometimes there are even categories in between. Whether the device (not 100% sure if you refer to devices or medicines) is INTENDED as Over-The-Counter or as Prescription-Only is generally up to the manufacturer, though there are cases where it is dictated by the regulations.

I hope it helps.

Cheers,
Ronen.

so in your case, Australia, what would be the definition of OTC or POM device, and where are they stated.

Thx.
