Partial Implementation of ISO 9001 in a Company

Hello guys nice to be here.

I have a simple question and i hope you help me about it.

Is it possible to have us to implement 9001 QMS for only a main process and its sub processes and related departments. ( this process only have internal customers- but has a big impact on external customers too)

we have a legal obligatory to have 9001 for that process and we are planning to increase the scope after the next years.

thank you very much.

Hard to tell without knowing more details about what you want to leave out. But, in principle, yes, you could have a limited scope of implementation of a QMS (and ISO 9001 by default). However, if there is a need for independent certification, that limitation would have to be EXPLICITLY defined and stated in the certificate.

Thanks sidney,

Thats what we want, expcitily defined on certificate only that process ( warehousing, not producing final goods)

Of course we are going to include related processes departmats to warehousing like finance, it, purchasing, human resouces etc.

Very tricky what you are asking for. The answer is in paragraph 4.3 of the ISO 9001:2015 Standard. If your organization is responsible for the design and production of a product, attempting to limit the QMS (and certification) solely to the warehousing function seems to be shady.

I am not saying it is shady necessarily, but it does sound bad. People will always ask: what are they hiding?

I am totally agree with you, problem is government wants to see warehousing on the certificate, and we dont have enough time to implement all proceses. We think to implement certain processes at first and all other processes next year by expanding the scope.

Where does the product being warehoused for the government come from? If it comes from the government, you may be able to do it.

But...

If you bought it then you would need to include the process that bought it. If you made it, you would have to include the process that made it. If you designed it then you would have to include the process that designed it....

Hi howste

Warehoused product comes from external suppliers ( will be included purchasement, finances, transportng etc processes)

Warehoused products will be used in our production processes ( will not be included)

By the way we are a shipyard company, producing ships. Warehoused products are used in our ships. Thats why its hard for us to implement ship producing processes by default and these warehoused products delivery is important for our quality objectives such as delivery time.

So if I understand correctly, you build ships (for the government?) and all the government wants is an ISO certificate showing that your warehousing activities are certified?

no and yes; we build ships for everyone, government wants warehousing and shipment processes are being certified because of importing priviliges.

anyway, i understand that if we cover all related processes and departmants there is no a technical problem for audit.

How about issues and interested parties? Do we need to cover all issues and interested parties or just issues and interested parties related selected procesess?
