"Taking a bio break" is a ploy I have used for years. I find that as I get older, no one suspects my call for a "break" is a ploy.

Parliamentarians even codify the procedure:
"Point of personal privilege, Mr./Madam Chair!":)

After I graduated from college and found myself in the "real world", I had a difficult time. I couldn't understand why my boss, whom I still have the utmost respect for, wouldn't do or say things that he knew were right. POLITICS was my nemesis. I would get so stressed out because things were done stupid simply because our VP had a bug up his butt. I had more coaching from my boss about relaxing than about how to do my job.

Then, after a while, I started to see that my boss was an evil genius. He would see these butt bugs come in, let them stew in their own mess for a while, and then deliver the solution on a platter than was even more well prepared than it would have been originally. Or he had a way of making the VP take the idea and think he came up with it himself. My boss was stepping back and not getting lost in the emotion of the decision. What's more, he could see four steps ahead to anticipate the fallout of the decision. I learned more from him about surviving in business than any other person.
