Wow....gas prices decline and the thread goes dead....guess they can say "Mission Accomplished"....raise prices til they scream then lower them slightly and it is acceptable.....
This morning, I had a few errands to run in a ten mile radius from my home. Brand name gasoline (87 octane unleaded, some with, some without
ethanol added) ran from $3.83 to $4.21. Within the same brand (Mobil) the range ran from $3.90 to $4.21. I know for a fact there is absolutely no difference in local excise or sales taxes between the various locations. All variation between stations (other than greed of operator) is due to real estate cost for station owner or wholesale price from distributor,
These were pump prices, before rebates for using certain credit cards or discounts for car wash purchases. The Citgo stations were consistently within 5 cents of each other. Shell and Mobil ranged from 20 cent spreads to 31 cent spreads. Local law DOES allow discount for cash versus credit, but none of the stations in our area have yet deployed that strategy. Elsewhere in our state, the maximum credit fee to the station owner by American Express is 2 per cent (the highest of ALL credit cards), but stations discounting for cash are creating an average 5 per cent spread. This means either cash buyers are getting a real bargain or credit buyers are being screwed!

I suppose it could also mean the station owners are TERRIBLE at math!
