PFMEA on component level AIAG VDA

Starting to get Involved
Hello

I have a doubts about step 2 and step 3 on the first 2 column.

My company makes Springs, and the customer asked me a PFMEA following AIAG VDA

From what i understood, in the step 2, in the first column (Process Item name) you have to write the final product of your process flow (eg. SPRING) and in the second column (Process step name) the name of process step on the process flow (incoming inspection of raw material)

Example below:

Step 2: Structure Analysis

Process Item name or name of process: Spring process
Process step name: incoming inspection of raw material

Step 3: Function Analysis

Function of the process item: Make the spring within defined cycle time and respecting the quality
Function of the process step: Ensure that the incoming material respects the internal quality standards
--------------------------------------------------

another example of my process:

Step 2: Structure Analysis

Process Item name or name of process: Spring process
Process step name: Profiling Process

Step 3: Function Analysis

Function of the process item: Make the spring within defined cycle time and respecting the quality
Function of the process step: Make the profile of Spring

---------------------------------------------------

So in the end:

1- the column "Process Item name or name of process" will be always the same
2- the column "Process step name" will be the name of the name of process step on the process flow
3- the column "Function of the process item" will be always the same
4- the column "Function of the process step" will be the function of process step on the process flow

Is that right?

SpecialSp,

I think you've got it right. This is the only part of the AIAG VDA FMEA format I like, when it comes to the PFMEA it combines the process flow and makes you think of why the process steps exist.

When we did our PFMEA to AIAG VDA:

1: "Process Item name or name of process" was always the same - we used the part description.
2: "Process step name" was the process step on the process flow - Goods inwards, Material storage, Issue material, Issue tool, etc...
3: "Function of the process item" was always the same - we used "meet customer requirements" but I like your addition of cycle time, it's an important internal metric so I will pinch this for ours
4: "Function of the process step" was why we did the respective process step - Goods inwards was "Ensure material is to our requirements as per the purchase order", Material storage was "Ensure material does not deteriorate before use and is in an identifiable location", and so on.
